Welcome to Grand Junction, where stunning landscapes meet a thriving, forward looking community. As western Colorado’s commercial hub and a key connector to eastern Utah, the City blends natural beauty with economic vitality. Residents and visitors alike enjoy year round festivals, a lively and walkable downtown, and a deep sense of history rooted in the land.
The City Attorney will be a strong leader and effective manager—someone who understands the realities of politics but knows how to stay above them. This individual will be responsive, knowledgeable, and quick to track down answers when something isn’t already at their fingertips. The City Attorney is also expected to keep every elected official equally informed, providing the same legal information at the same time so the entire Council can move forward with clarity and confidence.
In terms of requirements, Grand Junction’s City Charter states, “At the time of appointment, the City Attorney must have at least five years of experience in the active practice of law in the State of Colorado.” The position requires a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and licensure to practice law in Colorado, with five to ten years of increasingly responsible experience.
The salary range is $255,000 to $275,000. The salary will depend on qualifications and experience. Benefits are excellent.
