The City of Oshkosh (population 66,000) seeks an Assistant Finance Director to play a critical leadership role in supporting financial stability, accountability, and long-term strategic planning. Working closely with the Director of Finance, this position helps manage and oversee citywide accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and internal controls to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and adherence to best practices in governmental finance.
The Assistant Finance Director will bring extensive experience with GAAP-compliant financial reporting, fund accounting, audits, budgeting, and internal controls, along with the ability to manage complex financial data accurately and efficiently. This individual will be an effective supervisor and mentor, capable of leading finance staff, improving workflows, and supporting succession planning while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound financial judgment, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. They will communicate clearly and professionally with department leaders, elected officials, auditors, and external agencies, serving as a trusted advisor to the Director of Finance and assuming leadership responsibility as needed. Expected Hiring Range: $109,000 to $130,000 (DOQ)

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field is required; Master’s degree and/or CPA is preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a middle level management position in finance or accounting. Governmental accounting/finance experience is desirable.
- Practical experience with (Governmental) Fund Accounting.
