What Makes the AAME Job Board Different?

Job Board Tips and Information By Joe Turner Published on January 15

One of the core foundational purposes of the American Association of Municipal Executives is to advocate on behalf of and for city managers and other local government executives.

That is why we have launched a FREE job board.

In nearly every aspect of our professional lives we are asked to be deferential, put ourselves last, and focus on the needs of others – often at our own expense. This is especially true when it comes to job searches and executive recruitments.

Second Class Treatment of Candidates During Recruitments

Too many recruiters and recruitment firms treat candidates in an unprofessional or disrespectful manner because they are primarily focused on making sure their paying client, the governing body, is satisfied. A pervasive complaint is the lack of consistent and timely communication. Some withhold incredibly important information about the organization or the council’s expectations when it comes to contract terms.

The traditional job postings and brochures are laden with fluffy “say nothing” paragraphs offering candidates little insight on key pieces of information they must weigh when determining whether they will uproot and relocate their family.

Current Job Boards Ignore Executive Perspectives

The current state of “job search” for executives is less than desirable. Most candidates report a lack of direct outreach by recruiters – unless you count email blasts to thousands as direct outreach.

That leaves the classic job board as the primary vehicle for searching by executives. The problem here is that the marketplace is fractured and fragmented requiring candidates to search a variety of different job boards. And it gets worse the larger the geographical footprint of their search and can easily mean searching two dozen or more sources.

Then there is the content and structure of the job boards themselves. There aren’t any job boards that:

  • Exclusively focus on senior and executive level recruitments, and
  • Provide candidates with materially important information

Focus on Senior & Executive Level Recruitments

The AAME job board is the only job board exclusively focused on executive and senior level public sector recruitments. This is evident through our top-level category structure where any job listed must fall within a limited number of senior level position titles.

We are not trying to be “all things to all people” or make the most money possible by opening up our job board to any government job posting.

We are laser focused on what benefits our members and they don’t want to sift through the noise of irrelevant job posts across a dozen or more job boards.

Give Candidates the Information They Want!

Job searches are time consuming, and executives do not want to waste their energy trying to track down “deal-breaker” information or details that should be freely provided by recruiters and human resource directors.

So, we have created candidate-centric job listings that ask employers to provide the following information:

We are working to build the most comprehensive and exhaustive collection of job listings for municipal executives. To accomplish this, we are making it FREE to any recruiter or local government agency.

There is absolutely no reason for any entity to not post their jobs here.

If you are a municipal executive who wants to save time and get the information you desire about future job opportunities, please share this job board with your professional network and on your social media channels.

And do not forget to ask your HR directors to share it on their state listservs and with their professional networks.
